All parts of this site are valid HTML 4.01 Strict as defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), except for the three Java Games in the Fun Stuff section.
All pages on this site are validated by the W3C CSS Validation Service.
I have reviewed all the guidelines and believe that all parts of this site (except for the three Java Games in the Fun Stuff section) comply with all Level A, AA, and AAA success criteria defined in the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0.

Images and Multi-media
All content images on this site include equivalent ALT text. All purely decorative images are assigned ALT="".
The only animations used on this site are the warning graphic which appears on some pages beside a link or links to a page or pages which may not be suitable for young children, and three of the award graphics. No page has more than one animation, and no animation has a blink rate faster than 3 per second.
This site has no image maps, no audio, no Flash, and no ActiveX controls. Java is used only for the Thought for the day on the Home Page of this site, and three games in the Fun Stuff section of this site.
Links and Navigation
All areas of this site can be accessed from any page. Every page on this site can be accessed from any other page in no more than two clicks/taps (i.e. there are no third-echelon pages). Every page on this site can also be accessed directly from the Site Map, which can itself be directly accessed from any page.
The first link on each page of this site is a 'skip to main content' link, enabling non-visual user agents to bypass the site navigation menu at the beginning of the page.
There is a 'to top of page' link at the bottom of every page on this site.
All links on this site are written in plain HTML, and can be followed in any browser even if scripting is turned off.
Adjacent links are separated either structurally or by interposing a non-blank character. This helps non-visual user agents to render the links distinctly.
Many browsers, including JAWS, Home Page Reader, Lynx, and Opera, can extract the list of links on a page and allow the user to browse the list separately from the page. All links on this site (both image links and text links) are therefore designed to make sense out of context. All have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link (ALT text, in the case of image links) already fully describes the target.
Link text and/or titles are only duplicated where two links point to the same address, except for 1) the within-page 'to top of page' and 'skip to main content' links, and 2) the duplication of 'external link' in the title tags of links to other sites.
This site does not contain any links which open new windows or tabs.
Other Design Elements
I have designed this site with a fluid layout to display well in any standard desktop or laptop browser, and to be still readable and usable with other formats.
This site uses Cascading Style Sheets for visual design, enabling the pages to be more easily rendered by non-visual user agents. If stylesheets are not enabled in your browser, the content of each page is still readable and usable.
This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified 'text size' option in some visual browsers.
The colour combinations used on this site have been checked for visibility to people affected by colour-blindness.
There are no layout tables on this site. Data tables carry the appropriate markup for usability with non-visual user agents.
The natural language (UK English) of every page on this site is specified in the markup. If there is a change in the natural language of any text on this site, the change will be indicated with the appropriate lang="languagecode" attribute. This helps screen readers pronounce content correctly.
All pages of this site except the 'legal' pages (this Accessibility Statement, the Statement of Copyrights, the Statement of Ethics, and the Privacy Policy) are written in simple language. All medical terms and other specialised words or phrases are either defined in the preceding or immediately following text, or linked to a definition on another page.
